Calgary's 2024 blanket rezoning still makes secondary and backyard suites easier to permit — but Council has voted to repeal it, and on current plans the change lands around August 2026: most low-density lots are set to revert to the older, stricter rules, suites become discretionary again, and parking minimums return. If a suite is on your horizon, applying under today's framework is worth the timing.

The City's Secondary Suites registry fee is waived through December 31, 2026, and a development plus building permit runs about a 60-day review. We carry the City liaison, legal egress, fire-rating and HVAC zoning end to end.
